City Rupture

Canvas, acrylic paint, cardboard, plastic aluminium.

Variable dimensions (central canvas 40 x 40 cm)

2023

Walking through the city has become a valuable part of my practice methodology, with this piece inspired by my observations and contemplation. I appreciate the consistency of the yellow and grey palette throughout the urban landscape and hope to capture this sentiment by exploring an abstract expanded painting hung in an alley environment.

I am interested in alternative installation processes outside of the studio and enjoyed seeing the reinforced reading of this piece in situ. I explored different textures and materials ‘off the canvas’ that were reminiscent of city character.

I am inspired by geometric abstract art and wanted to explore how reductive imagery and limited palette choices can evoke a sense of place and further support this by site-specific installation.
